Celebrate a Historic Day in Wilton Manors

stonewallPrideDid you miss out on the Miami Beach Pride festivities last month? No need to worry, several pride events are happening all throughout the month of June and one of the largest is the annual Wilton Manors Stonewall Festival & Parade. The festival earns its name from the riots that took place on June 18, 1969 when members of the LGBT community violently demonstrated against a police raid. The day has since become historic for being an important event that contributed significantly to the gay liberation movement and LGBT rights. You can still visit the site of the Stonewall Inn in New York’s Greenwich Village to this day.

The Wilton Manors Stonewall Festival & Parade is among the largest community driven events of its kind in South Florida. Usually, it is attended by 20,000 to 30,000 individuals and families each year. Besides the parade, the event also features numerous street vendors, live performances, food trucks, and more. Wilton Manors is considered one of the most LGBT-friendly cities in South Florida, with a large community and several gay-owned businesses.

You won’t need to pay to attend the festival and parade, though donations are accepted. If you’re planning on attending, it will be held at Wilton Drive on June 18th, the same day as the Stonewall riots. Should you need a place to stay, our Miami Beach hotel is LGBT friendly and we would love to have you as our guest on this historic day.
