Ramón Ayala Rodríguez is better known to most of the world by his stage name of Daddy Yankee. The Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, occasional actor, and record producer emerged in the early 90s, releasing his debut album No Mercy in 1995. It wasn’t until 2004 when Daddy Yankee broke through with the release of his third album Barrio Fino that featured the hit “Gasolina”, a tune that made history as the first reggaeton song to ever be nominated for the prestigious Latin Grammy Award for Record of the Year. Subsequent hits like “Lo Que Pasó, Pasó” brought Daddy Yankee even more success. Since he began his musical career, Daddy Yankee has sold more than 18 million albums.
Daddy Yankee will be performing in Miami on August 6th at the American Airlines Arena as part of The Kingdom Tour, which will also feature fellow Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Don Omar in a “musical boxing match”. The concert sees both singers perform musical sets or “rounds” where fans determine the “winner” by voting through an app designed for the event. Expect to see a fusion of Latin and Caribbean rhythms and many of Daddy Yankee and Don Omar’s most popular tunes.
